Congressional Investigation Found Elevated Levels of Heavy Metal Contamination in Baby Foods

A U.S. House Subcommittee of Economic and Consumer Policy investigation found concerning levels of heavy metals in a wide variety of baby foods. At least seven of the largest baby food makers in the United States allowed toxic metal contamination in organic and conventional baby foods. Exposure to these heavy metals has been associated with serious risks, including:   

  • Permanent damage to the developing brain
  • Decrease in IQ
  • Deficits in cognitive function
  • Neurological deficits   

According to the FDA, even low-level exposure to heavy metals can be dangerous for developing babiesYet, elevated levels of heavy metal contamination have been found in popular baby foods, including:
